About

Hi! I’m Jaime Brockway.

If you’re looking for a copy editor who will make your content shine and make your life easier through a seamless collaboration, then you’ve come to the right place.

As a well-practiced editor with nine years’ experience, I’ve got your back when it comes to clean, professional copy.

Why is copyediting important?

Copyediting is quality assurance.

No matter what type of content you are releasing to the world, you need a copy editor. Nothing says unprofessional and untrustworthy like confusing syntax and grammatical errors.

For example, women are 81% less likely to buy a product advertised with spelling or grammar errors, and 77% of men agree. Poor spelling and grammar is one of the main warning signs of an email scam.

Copyediting is an important function for the integrity of both print and digital content, one study found. Even young people value edited content free of errors.

But I get it—with everything else you have on your plate, sometimes editing your content falls by the wayside in the rush to share it with the world. That’s where I come in!

My purpose is to elevate your content by editing for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax—and so much more. I eradicate errors while maintaining your brand voice so that readers can feel the full impact of your words without being distracted by weird phrasing or misplaced punctuation.

Perhaps you’re a forward-thinking freelancer who is constantly pushing out new projects. Maybe you’re a large company or organization about to release a white paper or cross-platform marketing campaign. Or perhaps you’re a small business launching a website and a newsletter. Whoever you are, I can contribute to the unwavering high reputation of your brand.

Content I’ve edited:

  • branded/sponsored content
  • daily newsletters
  • print and online magazines
  • manuscripts
  • brochures
  • B2B case studies
  • white papers
  • website copy
  • blog posts
  • apps

More about my history:

I’ve been a professional copy editor since 2014, when I moved to NYC without a job because I wanted to work in the publishing capital of the world.

Soon I was freelancing for The Wall Street Journal Magazine and various Hearst magazines. Then I began working full-time job as a copy editor at the weekly print magazine Time Out New York. In two years, I worked my way up to national copy chief of TONY and seven quarterly Time Out magazines in other U.S. cities.

In January 2018, I again began freelancing in order to work with my ideal clients. You can find a complete list of my clients on LinkedIn.

If you’d like to collaborate, I’d love to hear from you.

Testimonials

“Jaime is an absolute dream to work with. She wields her expertise with ease, has an incredible attention to detail, and always delivers on time. She’s truly dedicated to her work, which makes her go above and beyond in every project. I honestly can’t say enough good things about her or her work.”
—Katrina Diaz Arnold, owner and lead editor of Refine Editing

“In overseeing Jaime’s line-editing work,
I quickly learned that she’s a diligent, eagle-eyed copy editor. Her attention to detail led to improved readability of pieces without removing any tone or voice from the content. She also was a joy to work with—flexible, kind, and receptive to feedback.”
—Alexis Berger, senior lifestyle editor, Well+Good

“I’ve been working with Jaime for several years, and her work consistently stands out for its attention to detail. Recently, she took on a large-scale project for us that included copyediting several pages of website copy using a newly developed set of voice guidelines. After she turned it into us (ahead of schedule) the content felt unified and polished. You would never have known it was written by more than 10 staff members. I highly recommend Jaime!”
—Leah Campbell, manager, creative solutions, Atlantic Brand Partners

“Jaime is the best editor who’s ever worked with me, bar none, full stop. I’ve collaborated with many editors from news media, traditional publishing, and other backgrounds, and none have ever matched Jaime’s caliber of work. I would trust her judgment completely with my own personal writing projects along with clients’ projects.”
—Ellen Fishbein, founder, Writing.coach

“Working with Jaime has been a dream. I came to her because I was excited about the potential of a story I had written, but wasn’t feeling confident with my grammar. Jaime had the credentials, but she was also easy to work with and incredibly thorough. I could tell through some of her notes that she paid attention to the overall story, not just removing commas and adjusting ellipses. It made me feel good that she seemed invested in what I had presented. I would not hesitate to recommend Jaime and hope that this is the first of many collaborations to come.”
—a.e.kincaid, author, aekincaid.com

“Jaime was thorough and quick, asked the right questions, and was a pleasure to work with. She got up to speed very quickly with our house style and our CMS.”

—Wayne Hoffman, executive editor, Tablet Magazine
